Sequences, Choices, and their Dynamics

Sequences arise in many online and of-fline settings: urls to visit, songs to listento, videos to watch, restaurants to dine at,and so on. User-generated sequences aretightly related to mechanisms of choice,where a user must select one from a finiteset of alternatives. In this talk, we willsurvey a class of problems arising fromstudying such sequences and the role dis-crete choice theory plays in these prob-lems. We will present modeling and algo-rithmic approaches to some of these prob-lems and illustrate them in the context oflarge-scale data analysis.
